How to Travel Everest from Kathmandu
Traveling by Plane
The Everest region is a very famous
mountain region in Nepal. There are thousands of people traveling to Everest
from Kathmandu every year. So, how many people travel Everest from Kathmandu
then? Let's talk about it now:
Flying to Lukla from Kathmandu or
Ramechhap is the most common way of traveling to Everest from Kathmandu. It is
about a half an hour scenic adventurous flight to Lukla airport, and then you
walk to the base camp taking eight days including two altitude practice days in
Namche and Dingboche.
The 12-Day Everest base camp trek is the most popular
trekking package in the Everest Himalayas, but you can complete it in 9 days
from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. You follow a regular EBC trekking itinerary up to
the base camp and then fly out from Gorakshep on a helicopter after the
Kalapatthar hike.
I suggest going over to Cho La to
see tranquil Gokyo lakes and Gokyo Ri if you have 3 more days with the base
camp itinerary and if you are an adventure trekker. The Everest high passes
trek is one of the most adventurous trekking packages in the Everest region.
Overland Travel to Everest
You also can travel to Everest from
Kathmandu overland. You drive to Jiri in a bus and walk to the Everest base
camp taking a few weeks and then fly out from Lukla or walk back to Jiri again.
It is a long Everest journey, and an older trekking route when there was no
airport in Lukla. There are very rare trekkers walking on this route nowadays.
Another overland route to Everest is
driving to Salleri or Phaplu from Kathmandu in a jeep and then walking. It is
also a long trek in the Everest region. It is a new route compared to the other
two trekking routes.
Direct
Travel to Everest
Can't trek in cold and high
elevations? or Don't you have enough time for a long trekking trip? But, you
might like to travel to Everest while you are traveling in Kathmandu. The Everest base camp helicopter flight tour takes
you directly from Kathmandu to the Everest base camp. It is about four hours
flight tour, which takes off from Kathmandu airport, and then flies to the base
camp with several landings on vantage viewpoints.
Direct traveling to high elevations
might be dangerous for some people, so I suggest spending at least one full day
in Kathmandu visiting cultural heritage sites, and then
traveling to Everest.
